What do you do on a day-to-day basis at your job? My day-to-day, along with our Safety Specialist, consists of safety engagement with employees at our two manufacturing plants. Ensuring that OSHA and regulatory compliance is in order through inspections, audits, and training. Working as the point of contact for safety and environmental concerns during company updates and improvements. Teaming up with other departments to implement improvements to our manufacturing process to enhance safety and ergonomics in the workplace.
How did you arrive at your current position? What was your professional or career path? The two people who got me “into the doors” of Rytec actually still work here today. One is our Operations Manager (34 years with Rytec) and the other is our Order Fulfillment Specialist IV (16 years with Rytec). At the time they recruited me I was going to school pursuing fire science and was also working part-time as a firefighter. Rytec offered me the full-time opportunity I was looking for. I started out working as a Mechanical Assembler for our Spiral Door product line back in 1999. Soon after I got hired on I was given the opportunity to quickly progress and cross-train in several other areas within the shop. Around 2013 I was offered the opportunity to move into safety and ever since then, it has been my full-time career path at Rytec. They have continued to invest in me, my career and my journey.
What is the best part of your job? The people! Our employees are amazing – their engagement and commitment towards safety and each other in the workplace is astounding! So often our employees will come to me with great ideas or suggestions on how to continue to improve upon safety and health in the workplace. Great employees and a great culture are what make the difference for me.
